Atlanta has long been heralded as the economic capital of the South.
The largest city in Georgia and the ninth-largest metro area in the U.S., Atlanta offers both urban amenities and suburban comforts. With real estate prices that are considerably lower than those in New York, Los Angeles or even the Bay Area, the Atlanta metro area provides a good deal for those seeking to buy a home.
If you’re considering a move to the Atlanta metro area, one of the first things you’ll want to consider is how your cost of living will be affected. Overall, the Atlanta metro area is more affordable than many other major U.S. cities, but there are some areas that are more expensive than others.
Here’s a breakdown of some of the costs you can expect to pay in the Atlanta metro.
Auto insurance is pricey in Atlanta because it requires specific coverage for heavy downtown traffic. Not only are there many commuters, but the city also has a high number of uninsured drivers. Auto insurance in Atlanta for a minimum-coverage is around $750 per year but can go much higher for full coverage which can go as high as $3,000 per year. This is higher than the national average by over $400 dollars, and $200 dollars more expensive than the rest of Georgia.
Atlanta home insurance rates: Atlanta Metro has some of the most affordable home insurance in America. The average cost for a $200,000 policy is just under $1000 – that’s 10% less than elsewhere! It’s affordable, easy to set up and takes only minutes.
Surprisingly home insurance in the Alpharetta, Sandy Springs or Roswell areas are about the same amount as the Atlanta Metro area.
Property taxes in Atlanta Georgia: According to the Tax Foundation’s most recent statistics from the most recent fiscal year, Georgia’s property taxes in comparison to the rest of the country, is in the middle.
Whether you are ITP (within the perimeter) or OTP (outside the perimeter) of Atlanta Metro expect to pay the same in property taxes.
Atlanta is not short on entertainment. For starters, there’s the culture. Whether it’s sports, dining, or nightlife that interests you most, Atlanta has something for everyone!
With access to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, Alliance Theatre and High Museum of Art, it’s easier than ever for Atlantans to appreciate art. And with popular venues including Fox Theatre, The Tabernacle and Centennial Olympic Park, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy live music or sporting events like the World Champion Atlanta Braves or if you like football there is the Atlanta Falcons as well.
